Boy & Girl Scout Activities

Mad Science offers a variety of scouting programs for both Boy and Girl Scouts designed to help achieve badges, belts and pins. We also offer exciting assembly programs that are perfect for Blue and Gold Banquets, Recruitment Nights and other events your pack or troop may be hosting! Please click here to learn more about our spectacular shows!

Girl and boy scouting badges are earned by children who complete a series of activities related to a particular subject. Our workshops have been used with great success as a fun way to assist scouts with earning their badges!

 Girl Scout Workshops

  • Movers - Launch your troop into the exciting world of aerodynamics! Create your own UFO's (Unique Flying Objects) as you learn about flight and air movement!
  • Science in Action - Get excited about science! Experiment with gooey Mad Science "Magic Mud", use a chemical reaction to blow up a balloon, and see light in a whole new way with our Mad Science Rainbow Glasses!
  • Space Explorers- This program addresses topics such as space exploration, the nature of our galaxy and solar system, seasons and phases of the moon, propulsion and Newton’s Laws of Motion, constellations and time
  • Women in Science - This workshop is intended to foster an appreciation for science and the women who have made significant contributions to their field. In doing so, this workshop also touches on human health and nutrition, animal behavior, anthropology and paleontology.
  • Science Discovery - Get ready to experiment! Use a chemical to uncover a secret design, discover how many drops of water can fit onto one penny, explore mindboggling optical illusions, and test the result friction has on a car in motion!
  • Science Sleuth - Let's investigate! We'll use a little detective science to take some fingerprints, create a Mad Science racer from a few simple machines, and make the Mad Science crystal gardens to take home!
  • Science in Everyday Life - They will learn about seismology and geology. They will also learn about the properties of colors. An exploration of animal adaptations, habitats and classification of animals will be conducted. Finally Jr. Girl Scouts will learn a new way to tell time, and will construct their own sundial.

 Boy Scout Workshops

  • Ecosystem Explorations - A hands on ecology workshop discussing pollution. Devise and test oil spill techniques in a mock oil spill. Scouts will also explore the causes and remedies for acid rain through pH testing and monitoring
  • Machine Mania - Learn about levers, pulleys, incline planes and more!
  • Rocket Science - Build a functional model rocket to take home • Take an exciting look at planets, moons, comets, and the stars.
  • Walloping Weather - This is an excellent introduction to the science of meteorology and the forces of nature. Scouts will be able to apply their newly acquired knowledge when they experience the changes in weather that occur naturally everyday.
  • Electricity and Magnetism - Discover the invisible fields surrounding magnets -- and the world. Devise and perform experiments to test magnetic strength. Excite some electrons as you construct some serious circuits. Test various materials for conductivity with space-age plasma balls.
  • Mineral Mania - Recreate the process of rock formation and devise ways to identify and classify rocks and minerals. Experience the thrill of panning for gems; the gems you find, you can take home for further study and identification!
