Earth Systems Science Workshops

Atmosphere and Beyond

We’re on a mission to explore the atmosphere on Earth, and beyond! Travel to the end of the rainbow and make a sunset! Mix up various planetary atmosheres, one molecule at a time! Discover how stars look in space.

Black and Blue Oceans

Environmental disasters are all too frequent in our modern world. This workshop explores two current pollution issues: oil spills and acid rain. Students devise and test oil spill clean-up techniques in a mock oil spill and learn how real scientists are working to solve these problems.

 Dirt on Garbage

Reduce, reuse, and recycle in this hands-on class! Students will work together while exploring ways to reduce and manage waste to improve the state of our environment.

What better planet to explore than the one we live on! This course is all about the science of Earth. Students will explore the various layers of this planet while taking a special look at the outer most layer, also referred to as the crust. The students will examine three specific rock samples from this layer and learn all about their development and formation. In addition, students will be taught about other components of the layers of the Earth including the earthquakes and volcanoes.

 Ecosystem Explorations

Discover what an ecosystem is, where it can be found, and what it does. Students will challenge themselves to rid a "lake" of pollution, and build several real ecosystems for the class to keep!

Mineral Mania

Learn about the layers of the Earth, recreate a volcano, and devise ways to identify and classify rocks and minerals.

  Planets and Moons

Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in this “mad” planetary tour! Learn how the planets stack up.

 Space Phenomena

Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light in this phenomenal program on space events! See comets up close as one is formed before your eyes!

 Super Power Sources

In this course students will explore several alternative sources of energy including heat, air, and wind. They will act as power hunters to pinpoint both renewable and nonrenewable sources, ramp up a power generation station, and harness the sun’s heat using a parabolic mirror. In addition they will also view a series a demonstrations conducted by our Mad Scientists, in which the power and science behind fuel cells are revealed.

 Walloping Weather

Walloping Weather provides students with an opportunity to learn about weather. They will conduct hands-on experiments to better understand how it rains and what causes lightning. They will investigate the ways in which weather is predicted and measured and will become meteorologists in training.

  Wacky Water

What do a swimming pool, a drinking fountain, and the clouds in the sky all have in common? They hold water! During this course students will learn all about the wet and wonderful world of science through the exploration of water and its properties. From learning about density and oil spills, to wave motion and water pollution, this course gives students the 411 on water.

  Where's the Air?

This dynamic class explores the concepts of air pressure and buoyancy through hands-on experimentation and thought-provoking demonstrations.
