Investigate robotic fundamentals and build an ingenious robot to take home. We will explore circuits, electricity, sensors, gears and advanced robotic applications. We will conduct experiments with several different robots and examine their potential uses in the future. Which of our creative campers will design tomorrow’s robots? Could it be you?
(101) Robots 101
We will spend the first part of the day putting together our take home robot. Modern day robots have the potential to change our health, wealth...in fact everything about the world in which we live. Today is about Isaac Asimov’s “Laws of Robotics” and the application of robotic technology. We will prepare for the building of our take home robot.
(RED ) Ready For Robots
We will spend the first part of the day putting together our take home robot. Today is all about gears and how interconnected parts work together to create motion while also controlling speed and direction. Clocks and watches are a great resource to study how this process works so we will construct a clock to observe how gears work. We will each begin to design the robot we would like to build.
(CRT) Circuit Science
We will spend the first part of the day putting together our take home robot. Robots need energy to move and work so today will be all about circuits and electricity. Since electrical currents cannot occur on their own, we will help by providing electrons and conductors. What are conductors and electrons, you will know them inside and out by the end of today’s camp. You will even get to create your own light up bug‐bot.
We will spend the first part of the day putting together our take home robot. Camp participants will learn about sensors and how they enable a robot to learn about its surrounding environment. Sensors are the mechanical components of a robot that help detect information. We will compare human senses to those of robots and investigate the limitations of both. Creating our own take home circuit sensor will be done during the afternoon.
(ADV) Advanced Robots
Take‐home robots will be completed and tested today. We will use all we did during the week to complete our own problem solving robot. Once the concept and design have been completed, participants will have their own Robot Trade Show to demonstrate their creations. We will investigate the ability of robots to play soccer using energy, electricity and gears.
