What does a Mad Science party look like? How long does the party last?
Mad Science parties are one hour long with the exception of our Elite Party which runs 90 minutes. During the first 45-50 minutes, the Mad Scientist will engage children with amazing science demonstrations and hands-on experiments that are conducted with the help of your birthday child and guests. The experiments performed will depend on which party theme you select (read more about our super exciting party themes here! LINK). During the final 10-15 minutes of the party, the kids will make slime, putty or a bouncy ball to take with them as a souvenir from the party. If you book a rocket launch, cotton candy or another add-on as a finale for the party, this will add an additional 20 minutes for each add-on you select.
For what ages are Mad Science parties appropriate?
Our parties are appropriate for children between 4 to 12 years of age.
How far in advance do I need to book my party?
Our party schedule fills up quickly, so we highly recommend booking your party at least 3 weeks in advance to reserve your desired time slot. (NOTE: 2:30PM is our most popular time slot on both Saturdays and Sundays).
What do I need to do to make a reservation?
You can fill out an online request form by clicking on the “Book now” button on our website. (NOTE: Submitting a request through our website does not finalize your booking! Your reservation is not final until you speak to a party booking specialist). We respond to all online requests within 1-2 business days. You can also call us at (303) 403-0432 and our party booking specialist will be happy to schedule your party over the phone.
We require a $50 booking fee to reserve your party and we accept Visa, Discover and MasterCard. Your booking fee is non-refundable but does go toward the ultimate cost of your party. If you need to cancel or change your party, you have one year to use your booking fee towards a new party date or another Mad Science service.
What time can I have my party?
On Saturdays and Sundays we have set party times of: 11:30AM, 2:30PM, or 5:30PM. Parties can also be scheduled Monday-Friday at any time. All dates and times are subject to availability.
Where do you hold your parties?
We are outbound only and travel to your location to perform. We frequently perform at customers' homes, as well as at recreation centers, community centers, churches, schools and parks.
I live outside the Denver/Metro area...Will you travel to my party?
Yes! We will travel anywhere to perform at your child's party, though we do charge a travel fee if you are located more than 30 miles one way from our office in Denver. We will calculate the travel fee based on your distance from us. (NOTE: Our two most common travel fees are $75 for travel to Fort Collins and $100 for travel to Colorado Springs).
Do I need to know the exact number of kids attending my party to book it?
No, all we need is an estimate of the number of children you expect to attend. We ask that you plan for the largest number of children expected. We will call you the Wednesday before your party to confirm your final headcount and will make any necessary adjustments to your final pricing at that time. (NOTE: We only charge for children ages 4-12 who are actively participating in the Mad Science presentation. Infants, toddlers and teenagers who are present at the party but not actively participating do not count toward your headcount).
I'm having a ________ themed party, do you have any parties geared toward that?
All of our themes are based around science. If you have another party theme, we can notify the Mad Scientist, and he/she will do his/her best to incorporate your theme into the experiments and language that is used, as long as your theme is not a registered trademark.
When will the Mad Scientist arrive?
The Mad Scientist will arrive at least 15 minutes early to set up and will be ready to start the show at the time you booked. It is best to start your party at least 30 minutes before your Mad Science show is scheduled to start, to ensure the Mad Scientist is able to start on time and that all guests have arrived before the fun begins! The Mad Scientist will not wait for guests who are running late to the party.
What kind of space is needed?
We ask that you have enough space for the Mad Scientist to set up on the table you provide and for the children to be seated comfortably in front of it. The kids should be seated on the floor several feet back from performance area - no chairs please.
Is there anything I need to provide the Mad Scientist on the day of the party?
We will need a table - a card table or larger work best. We will also need access to hot water for experiments, and possibly access to electricity (based on the party you choose). Some of our parties require a room that can be darkened. If you are unable to provide a table or your party location will not have access to water or electricity, please consult with our party booking specialist and we will try to accommodate.
Once I have scheduled my party, can I make changes to it later?
You are free to make changes up until the Wednesday before your party when we call you to confirm. Please have your final headcount prepared by this date for the party booking specialist. If you would like to add goody bags, rainbow glasses, labcoats or other favors to your party, please let the specialist know at this time.
Is it okay to have other activities going on while the Mad Scientist is performing?
The Mad Scientist will begin at the scheduled start time and continue until the one-hour party and any add-ons are complete. We will not be able to stop for any other activities (ex. food or cake). For the safety of your guests, we ask that you refrain from serving food during the Mad Science performance. Food and chemicals do not mix!
What if it rains or snows on the day of my party?
We perform rain, snow or shine and do not cancel for inclement weather unless a major hazard is posed to our instructor (such as highway closures or blizzard conditions). However, if it rains or snows on the day of your party - and your party is planned to be held outdoors - the Mad Scientist will call to see if there is an alternate indoor location to conduct the party. If you can't change your outdoor party to an indoor party, please review our cancellation policy (below).
Will I be able to speak to the Mad Scientist before the party?
Yes! The Mad Scientist assigned to your party will give you a call on the Friday before the party to introduce themselves and confirm your party one final time. If there is anything special the Mad Scientist needs to know, such as parking information or a door code, this is a great time for you to discuss this with them.
When do I pay for my party?
We require a $50 booking fee to book your party. At the end of your party, you will pay the Mad Scientist the remaining balance. You can pay with cash, check, or authorize us to charge the credit card you used for your booking fee. Please total out and sign the invoice provided by your Mad Scientist.
What is your policy on tipping?
Our Mad Scientists are allowed to accept tips and we highly encourage you to tip your instructor if you feel an excellent service was provided - a 15-20% tip is often customary and very much appreciated.
